![]() You can add some storage, a laundry hamper, or a decorative plan. If your door is centered, you have the added benefit of having extra space behind it. The shower doesn’t need to be open, but you can fit one easily in this space without having to worry about things getting wet. Nothing is directly across from anything else, so there is nothing to back into or get caught on. This design not only looks good but allows for easier movement throughout the room. On the opposite wall, the toilet is near the center, and finally, turning back to the wall where the sink is, there is an open shower in the other corner. Keep the sink pretty close to the corner. Starting at the door, you want to turn to one side to find the sink. This design works no matter where the door is. The zig-zag layout is all about creating an S-shaped path through the room. It makes for a less cramped feeling but still a space-saving layout. ![]() There is still plenty of wall space for a towel rack or shelves and even space beside the sink and toilet for toilet paper and a cleaning brush.Ĭorner showers feel more spacious than regular square ones and give you a better view of the room when you are using them. This leaves the rest of the room open to move about in and keeps everything out of the way of the door. With the shower in the corner, the toilet sits on one side and the sink on the other forming a V. This type of shower allows you to put other items much closer to the sides of it. If you don’t know what those are, they are showers designed to work in corners where the door is at a diagonal rather than on one of the sides. The leaky corner is not for everyone, but it might be the most space-efficient layout. This is the perfect design if you are looking to put in one of those massive, two-person spa tubs for romantic candlelit rendezvous or personal wine nights. This is by no means an efficient use of space, but it is very stylish and feels downright luxurious. If the door isn’t in the way, the toilet can go on the same wall as the tub. The sink goes in the opposite corner.ĭepending on where the door is, you can extend the counter across the whole wall, or put the toilet beside the sink. ![]() It doesn’t have to be a full 45° and works better if it isn’t. Starting with the tub, set the bathtub or Jacuzzi at an angle to the wall. This layout is pretty wild and makes the bathtub the main feature. Angles Are Inįor the truly adventurous, why not try something unique with the angles are in look? You can also artificially shrink the room by adding half walls on either side to act as open shelving and control any awkward gaps around the tub. This design is particularly practical if the walls are irregularly shaped or have a built-out section that prevents the room from being perfectly square. This leaves plenty of room for storage, shelving, and brick-a-brack, plus the door won’t get in the way. In this design, the tub sits against the back wall and the sink and toilet face each other on the walls on either side. If you’re the type of person who likes to keep things symmetrical, the U can use it layout is sure to please you. The only issue with this design is that it can feel a bit bland, so you might want to dress it up with nifty fixtures and attractive décor. It works particularly well if the window is on the back wall across from the door. This layout keeps the bathroom open-feeling and accessible and is easy to implement in any space. If the wall the door is in is the front wall, then the bathtub is against one sidewall, and the toilet and sink sit across from it is against the other side wall, leaving the back wall blank. Face-Offįace-off is one of the most basic layouts a bathroom can have, and it lends itself perfectly to square rooms. This design works best if the door is in the corner but also functions with a centered door. You can even fit a whole cabinet at the end of the tub. This layout leaves plenty of room for towel racks, laundry hampers, plungers, and more. They all back onto the same wall, and the tub sticks out, forming the L. ![]() Next to it is the toilet, and next to that is the tub. ![]() Here are some practical ways you can tell between a real obsidian and a fake obsidian. With a rock that has many look-alikes and wannabes, obsidian is pretty challenging to identify if you don’t have handy tips to do so. Rock identification is no easy feat, especially if you’re dealing with a specimen that’s potentially an obsidian. The more people want obsidian, the more fakes pop up. Buyers can’t always see or touch the stone before buying, making it tricky to tell real from fake. The rise of online shopping makes it even easier for these fakes to get into people’s hands. Some are just regular glass dyed black, while others are different types of stones that look somewhat like obsidian. These fake obsidians are often cheaper to produce and can be sold to unsuspecting buyers for the price of real obsidian. So, they create stuff that looks like the real deal but isn’t. Here’s the thing, though: when something gets popular, there are always folks who want to make a quick buck. Check out our article on where obsidian is found if you want to mine for your own gem. ![]() Obsidian is a pretty popular gem because of its unique look and cool origin story (remember, it comes from volcanoes!). Why you’re seeing more fake obsidian these days In some cultures, it was believed to protect the person wearing it from evil. People have carved it into statues, used it in mosaics, or turned it into beautiful jewelry. Obsidian has played a big part in art and jewelry, too. If you hit obsidian in a certain way, it can break into pieces with super sharp edges- even sharper than a surgeon’s scalpel! Because of this, ancient humans used obsidian to make tools and weapons like knives, arrowheads, and spears.īut that’s not all. Certain types of obsidian, like the ones with pretty patterns or colors, can be rarer and thus more valuable. The value of obsidian is dictated by its beauty and the way it can be shaped and used. It’s often black, but it can have streaks of other colors like green, brown, or even shiny gold and silver. This glass-like appearance is because obsidian doesn’t have the time to form crystals as it cools down super fast. Unlike most rocks, obsidian is glassy and smooth. One of the coolest things about this gem is how it looks. When this happens and the molten rock quickly cools down, it can turn into obsidian. Sometimes, this magma pushes its way up and spills out of a volcano. Picture this: deep inside the Earth, there’s melted rock called magma. ![]() Overview Of Natural Obsidian And Why Fakes Are Common Obsidian photo provided by and available for purchase at GAFTreasures

![]() To employ these equations with SI units, it will be easiest to first convert the SI units to oilfield units, calculate the desired results in oilfield units, then convert the results to SI units. All equations presented include the constant or constants needed with oilfield units. We chose this system because more petroleum engineers “think” in bbl/day and psi than in terms of m 3/s and Pa. We have used “oilfield” units throughout the text, even though this system of units is inherently inconsistent. It is used in cases where the exponent cannot be conveniently displayed. Note that the decimal place of the number can be moved to convert scientific notation into engineering notation. For example, 10 3 would have the kilo prefix, 10 6 would have the mega prefix, and 10 9 would have the giga prefix. This is so that the numbers align with SI prefixes and can be read as such. ![]() If, for example, the solution had instead been 0.179×10 -2, by convention, we would shift the decimal to the left such that the first digit left of the decimal point wouldn't be 1, then change the exponent accordingly:Ġ.179×10 -2 = 1.79×10 -3 Engineering notationĮngineering notation is similar to scientific notation except that the exponent, n, is restricted to multiples of 3 such as: 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, -3, -6, etc. By convention, the quotient is written such that there is only one non-zero digit to the left of the decimal. Divide the digits normally and subtract the exponents of the powers of 10. To divide numbers in scientific notation, separate the powers of 10 and digits. The digits are multiplied normally, and the exponents of the powers of 10 are added to determine the new power of 10 applied to the product of the digits. To multiply numbers in scientific notation, separate the powers of 10 and digits. Once the numbers are all written to the same power of 10, add each respective digit. To add and subtract in scientific notation, ensure that each number is converted to a number with the same power of 10. Scientific notation can simplify the process of computing basic arithmetic operations by hand. In scientific notation, numbers are written as a base, b, referred to as the significand, multiplied by 10 raised to an integer exponent, n, which is referred to as the order of magnitude:īelow are some examples of numbers written in decimal notation compared to scientific notation: Decimal notation It is commonly used in mathematics, engineering, and science, as it can help simplify arithmetic operations. ![]() Scientific notation is a way to express numbers in a form that makes numbers that are too small or too large more convenient to write and perform calculations with. That line only gets blurrier as time goes on, so I thought I’d dig in a little. And, until I proposed this series to Nathaniel, which partly exists to fill my own viewing gaps, sorry to Stuart Little, a movie that really tested my sense of the line between animation and visual effects, especially in the context of 1999. Don’t get smug, Rise of Skywalker, you weren’t much better. ![]() Like Best Original Song, it’s a division where I gladly release myself from seeing all the nominees. The Jungle Book, like an incredible number of films nominated for Best Visual Effects since the category got expanded to a five-wide field in 2010, made almost zero lasting impression on me. And I actually didn’t remember, I had to look it up. Actually, what I mean is that I remembered Mowgli was in the movie, period. I wasn’t sure why the movie that defeated Kubo, the 2016 remake of The Jungle Book, did not belong on this list, until I remembered that Mowgli was played by a living, breathing actor, Neel Sethi. I’ve read that tidbit in several places and assume that it must be true, according to people who know better than I do. This year, The Lion King joins Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) as only the third fully animated feature to be nominated for the Best Visual Effects Oscar. This week, in advance of the Oscars, Nick Davis is looking back at the Academy races of 20 years ago, spotlighting movies he’d never seen and what they teach us about those categories, then and now. ![]() If friends, colleagues, or family members with a desire to learn web design basics and no prior experience ask how to begin, you can safely recommend this book to them.In terms of WYSIWYG editors, probably the main three that are used are Dreamweaver, Kompozer and Nvu. This is not a book for the world’s Dunstan Orchards it is strictly for beginners (but not for dummies). With simple language and clear illustrations, Castro teaches budding web producers the basics of HTML and CSS in the context of a simple, hands-on project. Thus it is with pleasure that I recently read and now recommend Elizabeth Castro’s Creating a Web Page With HTML, Visual QuickProject Guide (Peachpit Press, 2004). My friend asked for help and I could not provide it. And books targeted at absolute beginners were filled with bad, mid-1990s advice. All the books I owned (and a couple I’d written) presumed a certain amount of knowledge and experience. Nothing in my web design library fit the bill. Last year, a friend with no knowledge of HTML, eager to create her first website, asked me to recommend a book that would help her learn what she needed to know. If you're just starting out, a good resource is a book called Creating a Web Page with HTML, Visual QuickProject Guide from Peachpit press. I particularly recommend Eric Meyer on CSS, More Eric Meyer on CSS, and Designing with Web Standards. The CSS Zen Garden shows the flexibility of CSS. There are a lot of good sites that describe how to use CSS Here's a quick list of my favorites: If you're new to this, learn CSS on a web page first, then apply what you've learned to Seamonkey. How do i use css in seamonkey, is there a tutorial ?ĬSS in Seamonkey is used to handle the display of elements. So i understand css are codes to give lots of caracteristics of text to many text at once, but, if i want a page 800-600 i have to make a table that size, right or wrong? and the inside the table i add the css? or does the css are like tables, i mean they are squres where to put info, text etc. Giorgiomartini22 wrote:Hi im kinda new im this, i have learned to use tables, by pixels and % to strech them.īut i've read that doing pages with tables is not the way to go, they say is better to use css , If you're just learning CSS, KompoZer will probably be very helpful. I prefer doing my HTML and CSS coding using a plain text editor, but I do find KompoZer useful to get a page put together quickly. The stand-alone HTML editor Nvu has been discontinued, but KompoZer is "Nvu's unofficial bug-fix release" and is still being updated. SeaMonkey Composer isn't much good for working with CSS, especially for page layout. In particular, I find the tutorials at to be very useful. Another page with links to a lot of good resources is. One site that you might find helpful to learn how CSS applies to page layout is. There's lots of good information about CSS on the Web. For example, if you want a page to be 800圆00px, instead of creating a table in those dimensions, you could use CSS to apply those dimensions to the element of the page. Although you can use CSS both for the appearance and position of tables, what you are talking about is getting rid of tables entirely, using only CSS to control the layout of the page. The other use for CSS is positioning of elements within a page. One use is for the appearance of the content, such as fonts, borders, colors. Generally speaking, there are two uses for CSS. Primarily, though, an HTML table implies a grid of data, which most pages are not, so for any other kind of content, is inappropriate. In my experience, tables are just too inflexible except for the very simplest of page layouts. My own opinion is that tables should be avoided for most types of layout. You'll find arguments for and against the use of tables for Web page layout. |
